Welcome to Joujou, an indoor playspace nestled into 2600 square feet of a historic Des Moines building and neighborhood. Inside you'll find a space filled with moments to inspire connectedness for parents and children, and plenty of play!

Joujou opened its doors in May 2022, after months of navigating waves of a pandemic, global supply chain crisis, and raising five children under the age of five!

Perfect for children aged four months to five years, Joujou is inspired by Montessori principles, such as a prepared environment, taking cues from sensitive periods, and leaning into the natural world. From classes to parties to playdates, Joujou is the community for Des Moines' littlest families!

When we created Joujou, we wanted it to be more than just a physical space - but one that also met families' emotional needs. Connection, respite, and community are often overlooked during the early years of raising a family, but are central to their well-being. We wanted to create a space that we would have benefited from as parents to very young children.

We also believe play for the littlest children should be accessible for all in Des Moines, regardless of resources. Through our Holding Space Initiative, our goals to bring quality and inspiring play into communities will continue to grow with Des Moines.

What we hoped for has begun to take shape - there is a beautiful community at Joujou that reflects the way modern families parent differently while working to support families throughout the Des Moines Metro.
